1. You will be assigned to a group of 4. Each group contains a features writer, a food editor, a weatherman, and an editorialist.
2. Responsiblities are as follows:
Features Writer - compose an
article telling about all those pioneers out there! Click for
graphic organizer
to help with your article. Print it out to write your notes on.
Food Editor - provide a recipe
for those weary pioneer mothers to cook on the trail. Click for
recipe card to help you with
your recipe. Print it out to write your notes on.
Weatherman - predict the weather
on the trail and help the pioneers pack appropriately. Click here
for forecast sheet to help you. Print
it out to write your notes on.
Editorialist - debate whether
local townspeople should undertake the journey or not. Click here
for a graphic organizer to help with your debate.

3. After printing your graphic organizers, all features writers research together using sites provided on the Resources page. Food editors need to research together on 1 or 2 computers. Weathermen work together on 1 or 2 computers and editorialists gather at 1 or 2 computers to complete their research. Be sure to write notes on the graphic organizer to help you compose your newspaper article, recipe, or editorial.
4. Return to your group and share your portion of the newspaper with your fellow reporters.
5. Right click on the desktop and make a new folder. Name it "newspaper" or something appropriate so that you can find your info. Open a new Word document and type the name of your newspaper. Click "Format" and go down to "Columns". Your group needs to decide on the layout for your paper. Click on 2, 3, left, or right. Each reporter needs to type his/her article for the newspaper in this Word document. Don't forget to include clipart or pictures you may want. Save the file in your newspaper folder. 6. When you print, be sure to print on the front
and back just like a newspaper.
