2011-12 Scholarship Opportunities

The counseling department will post all scholarships that are availble to the senior class of 2012 as we receive information on them. Please check the Central website or the SIS Student/Parent Portal announcements weekly as new scholarships may be added. We will change the font color as we post new scholarships to help you identify with new ones being posted. Students may also want to build a profile on www.fastweb.com. This will alert you to several more scholarships that we may not know about. Parents/students will need to complete the on-line Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after filing taxes for 2011. The web address is: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Mid-East Missouri Contractors Association: Deadline April 1, 2012
Seniors pursuing a degree in a construction related field, such as, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or in the study of some phase of construction industry are eligible for this scholarship. Must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. Applications are located outside the counseling office.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program: Deadline February 29,2012
The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program recognizes and supports the journey of those who put forth the effort and find success both in and out of the classroom, yet are unable to attend college without financial assistance. Those who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry should apply at www.buickachievers.com.

Southeast Missouri Superintendents Association: Must be submitted before March 1, 2012
Requirements:
Must be a resident of Missouri
Must be a senior enrolled in a school district that is a member of the Southeast Missouri Superintendents Association
Must be planning to enroll in a 4-year undergraduate program for the upcoming semester as a first year freshman
Must intend to teach K-12 upon completion of an undergraduate program
The Association plans to award two $750 scholarships to two individuals of the graduating class of 2012. Applications are available outside the counseling office.

2012 Missouri Bankers Foundation Scholarship: Postmarked by March 16, 2012
The Missouri Bankers Foundation Scholarship Fund was established to encourage college-level study for young people interested in pursuing banking and banking-related careers. The Missouri Bankers Foundation is pleased to announce the MBF Scholarship Program for 2012. Seven $500 scholarships will be awarded to 2012 Missouri high school graduates for their first semester tuition payment and/or college expenses. One scholarship recipient will be chosen from each of the seven geographical regions. Applications are located outside the counseling office.

St. Francois County Farm Mutual Insurance Scholarship: Deadline is before March 1
The Board of Directors have elected to award a $500 scholarship to a high school senior. Missouri Association Mutual Insurance Companies is also awarding a $500 scholarship. The local company will chose an applicant and then send them on to MAMIC. Therefore a senior has two chances and the possibility of winning $1000. If there are any questions, please call 573-756-1510. Applications are in the counseling office.

Missouri Corn Scholarship: Before February 10, 2012
Applications for the 2012 Missouri Corn Scholarships are now available for high school seniors and college juniors pursuing a degree in agronomy or related areas of agriculture. This year, 10 deserving students will be awarded $750 scholarships by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and Missouri Corn Merchandising Council. Missouri Corn Scholarship applications are available for download at Missouri Corn Online. Interested students can also call the Missouri Corn office toll-free at (800) 827-4181 to request an application. Students must submit an application form, official high school or college transcript and at least one letter of recommendation to the Missouri Corn office by Feb. 10, 2012 to be eligible.

Ava's Grace Scholarship: Deadline April 15, 2012
The Ava's Grace Scholarship Foundation is a one-of-a-kind non-profit organization with a vision of higher education and work force development for children of incarcerated parents. AGSF's mission is to stop the cycle of incarceration through the gift of higher education. Beginning in 2012, Ava's Grace Scholarship Foundation will award ten $5,000 scholarships to children in the state of Missouri who have been impacted by incarceration. Our scholars will be chosen based on financial need, academic potential and strength of character. The application will be available online beginning in January 2012 and the full application packet will be due for consideration on April 15th, 2012. Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship: Deadline March 23, 2012
The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA-TDF) is now accepting applications for the “Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program” for the 2012-13 academic year. The program awards scholarships of up to $5,000 per year to assist the children of highway construction workers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty pursue post-high school education. NHS Scholarship Program - $10,000 (Deadline: January 20, 2012)

Participants are judged based on their intial application, on-site debates and participation during the week. National Defense Transportation Association 2012 Scholastic Awards
The purpose of the program is to promote careers in Business, Transportation Logistics and Physical Distribution. Although all students may apply, preference will be given to students pursuing these and related courses of study. The NDTA intends to award a minimum of two (2) scholarships of $3,500 each and four (4) scholarships of $2,000 each for recipients enrolled in accredited bachelors or graduate degree program in 2012. Two addtional awards of $1500 each are awarded to students enrolled in two-year associate degree or trade certification program. Applications are located in the counseling office.

Nate Rawlins Memorial Scholarship:  Deadline for application is April 8, 2012
The family of Nathanial Rawlins has established a scholarship in honor of Nate to provide financial support to a deserving graduate of Central High School.  The scholarship will be a one-time award payable to a college of the student's choice for the tuition only.  Applications are available outside the counseling office.  See your counselor if you need help in completing this application.
 
Southeast Region Teachers Association Student Scholarship:  Postmarked by February 1, 2012
Must be a member of Future Teachers of America (FTA) and seeking a teaching degree.  The award will be $500 and must be used at a Missouri college or university.  Applications are available outside the counseling office and a completed application must be turned into your counselor by January 15th, in order to be considered by our CTA before the postmarked date.
 
Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation:  Through December 13th
A photo could now be worth a $20,000 scholarship from KFC.  Through December 13th, high school seniors can try to win a $20,000 Colonel's Scholars scholarship by Tweeting a single image and including the hashtag #KFCscholar.  For more information on KFC's Twitter scholarship or to read the terms and conditions, please visit KFC.com.

The American Legion Need a Lift CD
This is an electronic booklet updated annually to serve as a complete financial-aid reference guide to veterans, veteran's dependents and members of the American Legion family.  The "Need A Lift?' CD is available in the counseling office to any student or parent who would like to use it in planning for financial aid.  You may also visit www.legion.org to learn about all the things The American Legion does to help our veterans.
 
Edward G. Halliburton Scholarship Program:  Postmarked by February 29, 2012
Electro Savings Credit Union will begin accepting applications for the 2011 Edward G. Halliburton Scholarships on January 3, 2012.  They will award three $1,000 college scholarships.  Must be a member of Electro Savings Credit Union for at least one year.  Applications are available atwww.ElectroSavings.com after January 3, 2012.

2012 Project 21 Scholarship Contest
The Missouri Gaming Association, the statewide professional association of the Missouri casino industry, will award two $1,500 scholarships and four $1,000 scholarships through the 16th annual Project 21 Scholarship competition. The goal of Project 21 is to promote awareness among our youth that it is not permissible in Missouri for persons under the age of 21 to gamble in a casino and to also educate them about the dangers and consequences associated with underage gambling. The competition is open to all Missouri high school seniors planning to attend an institution of higher education in the United States within four years of graduation.
Students are asked to create an essay, poster or video aimed at educating their peers about the illegality and dangers of underage gambling. The entries must be published or viewed in the students’ high school in January or February of the contest year to help educate other students. The contest application and guidelines is also available at www.missouricasinos.org.


John Dennis Scholarship for Criminal Justice Majors: Must be submitted by January 31st
Sixteen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to college-bound Missouri high school seniors who intend to pursue a criminal justice career and will be attending a Missouri university or college. Students interested in applying for the scholarship may contact the Missouri Sheriffs' Association and Training Academy via email at karen@mosheriffs.com to obtain an application.

Mizzou's Trulaske College of Business has requested that we make this information available to current seniors about it's three largest scholarships --
Ponder Minority Scholarship, Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. Scholarship in Business and the Sam M. Walton Scholarship in Retail. Belcher Scholarship: October 7, 2011 - January 13, 2012
Central R3 School District will nominate one high school senior based on academic achievement, leadership abilities and the quality of an essay. The 2012 Essay Topic is: After reviewing the Teaching section of the Vision for Missouri Public Education's report on Teaching, Learning and Assessment, please explain how this report will impact the future of public education in Missouri. Show-Me Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society
Chapter Scholarships: Postmarked by November 28th. The Show-Me Chapter offers a $1500 and a $1000 scholarship for a high school senior, or undergraduate, planning to major in conservation or a natural resources-related field. Conservation Foundation of Missouri Scholarship: Submitted by December 31st
CFMO offers 5 $1000 scholarships to high school seniors or undergraduates in different natural resources areas. Preference will be given to those demonstrating financial need. Applications must be submitted by December 31. Information can be found at http://www.swcs.missouri.edu/scholarship.htm.

Vantage Credit Union's Quest for Education Scholarship Program: Must be received by December 2nd

Beauty Changes Lives Scholarship: Must be received by March 15, 2012
The National Academy of Beauty Arts will award two $1,000 scholarships to Central High School. If you are interested in a rewarding career as a Salon Professional you will want to apply. Applications are available in the counseling office.

LEAP High School Scholarships
Missouri Society of CPAs (MSCPA) Educational Foundation sponsors LEAP (Lead and Enhance the Accounting Profession) scholarships for high school seniors so that high-achieving students have the opportunity to pursue fulfilling careers as CPAs.
High school students are eligible to receive $500 and must
• be an MSCPA high school student member -- Join Here
(membership is free);
• be a Missouri Resident (or child of MSCPA member);
• be a high school senior during the 2011-2012 school year;
• enroll in at least 12 college course hours at a college/university
in Missouri, after high school graduation;
• declare accounting degree or its equivalent.
Online applications will be accepted from October 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012. The link to applicant eligibility, rules and the application will be sent to the student upon him/her becoming an MSCPA member.

ESA Foundation Scholarships: Postmarked by February 1st
The ESA Foundation awards over 160 scholarships nationally and internationally each year.
